O’Connell’s GFC v St. Nicholas GFC Match Report
O’Connell’s GFC picked up their first win of 2025, seeing off a spirited St. Nicholas team in The Grove on a 3-17 to 0-15 scoreline. The game started off very even, with both teams trading early scores. O’Connell’s had points from Niall Conlon, Evan Kearney, Robert Quigley and Justin Cooney all inside the opening twenty minutes of the game before going on a run of 5 unanswered points, which included two two-pointers from Robert Quigley and Niall Conlon. These scores would see O’Connell’s take a 0-12 to 0-05 into the break at half time, although this lead could have been less only for St. Nicholas hit the woodwork with a goal chance late in the first half. The second half got off to the perfect start, with Niall Conlon slipping in T.J Conlon for the games opening goal. Despite St. Nicholas answering back with two two-pointers of their own, O’Connell’s extended their advantage when Bernard Osbourne found the back of the net to extend the O’Connell’s lead to ten. From there the game finished with another late goal for Cian Geeney to give O’Connell’s the victory and keep their hopes of retaining the Kevin Mullen Shield alive.
