O’Connell’s GFC welcomed the Division 3 league leading John Mitchels to the Grove on Sunday, May 25th looking to keep the momentum going after last weeks big victory over Annaghminnon Rovers. The game started evenly with both teams trading early scores. Robert Quigley opened the scoring for the O’Connell’s before Niall Conlon added a second to leave the score at 0-02 a piece after ten minutes. Robert Quigley followed with the first two-pointer of the game before Niall Conlon added his second score of the day to leave the O’Connell’s lead at three points. John Mitchels answered back with a run of scores of their own before finding the games first goal to put themselves into the driver’s seat heading into the break, with the score at 0-06 to 1-06 in favour of the visitors. The second half started well for the hosts, with Jackie Agnew firing over the first score to cut the deficit to two, but it wasn’t to last with John Mitchels finding the second goal of the game soon after to strengthen their lead. This was followed by five unanswered points from the visitors to extend their lead out to eleven points before Robert Quigley put an end to the hosts scoring drought with the O’Connell’s second point of the half. John Mitchels managed to find time for one more goal before Sean Cairns found the back of the net to add a layer of gloss to the scoreline for the O’Connell’s, with Niall Conlon firing over one more point to leave the final score 1-09 to 3-12 in favour of John Mitchels.
