Match Report for O’Connell’s GFC 1-12 v Dundalk Young Irelanders 6-18
O’Connell’s GFC welcomed the league leaders of Division 6 North, Dundalk Young Irelanders, to the Grove on Tuesday, May 20th for round six of the Division 6 North competition. A high scoring affair, O’Connell’s were never able to fully get into the game, with the Dundalk side showing why they are top of the table, running out 6-18 to 1-12 winners. The visitors dominated the first half, putting scores on the board early and leaving O’Connell’s with all the work to do. Conor Byrne opened the O’Connell’s account with a two-pointer, before a set of two pointers from Evan Kearney breathed a sense of life into O’Connell’s. After dispossessing the visitors from a kickout, the ball made its way to Sean Geeney who found the back of the net to ensure that O’Connell’s were not out of reach to early in the contest. Another Evan Kearney point brought the first-half to a close with the score sitting at 1-07 to 3-13. The comeback was not to be however, as an early second half goal for the visitors ensured that their hold on the contest would not slip. Despite another five points from Evan Kearney, O’Connell’s were a long way from a miraculous comeback, eventually falling to a 1-12 to 6-18 defeat.
