O’Connell’s GFC welcomed Cuchulainn Gaels to the Grove on Sunday, June 8th looking to bounce back from the previous weeks defeat to Glyde Rangers. The visitors started the game strongly, with an early two-pointer giving them the lead, before a free kick from Robert Quigley and a Stuart Osbourne effort tied up the score at 0-02 each. Cuchulainn Gaels managed to squeak back ahead with another free kick before O’Connell’s kicked into gear, scoring 1-3 without reply over the next ten minutes. The run started with Niall Conlon slotting over a free kick before Evan Kearney did the same from a 45. Straight from the Cuchulainn Gaels kickout, O’Connell’s strung together a lovely passage of play which ended with Cailum Woods setting up Niall Conlon with an open goal to palm the ball into the back of the net. Niall Conlon added another point from play before the visitors stopped the run with another free Soon after, Jackie Agnew opened his account for the day followed by another Niall Conlon effort to leave the score 1-07 to 0-03. Not to be excluded from the goal scoring, Cuchulainn Gaels found the back of the net with eight minutes to go in the half to reduce the deficit, only for Evan Kearney to answer back with a two pointer to extend the O’Connell’s lead back out to five. Two more Cuchulainn Gaels points and a Niall Conlon effort brought the half to a close, with the score set at 1-10 to 1-06. The second half started perfectly, with Niall Conlon adding his second goal of the game to extend the O’Connell’s lead to seven, before Evan Kearney added another point of his own from a 45. The last fifteen minutes went by rather uneventfully, with both sides missing a number of chances to add to the scoreline. Cuchulainn Gaels last point of the game came ten minutes from time when they slotted over a fee-kick, before two more efforts from Jackie Agnew along with one final Niall Conlon point rounded out the game for the O’Connell’s, with the final score finishing at 2-15 to 1-07 in favour of the side from Castlebellingham
