Underage Roundup

O’Connell’s GFC had two underage teams in action last week, one at U14 and one at U16 level. The U14 team were out in action first, with St. Micheals welcoming Ardee St. Marys to Páirc Sean Misteal on Wednesday, April 23rd. A very competitive encounter from both sides, St. Micheals were able to come away with a well deserved seven point victory, winning on a scoreline of 5-11 to 3-10. Next up was the U16 team on Monday, who travelled to Páirc Naomh Feichin to take on St. Fechins. Despite putting in a large amount of effort, St. Micheals were unable to come away with the victory, losing on a scoreline of 5-23 to 0-07. There is only one underage team in action this week, with the U14 team travelling to Dundalk to take on Dundalk Young Irelanders on Saturday, May 3rd.

Louth reach third straight Leinster Final
Congratulations to Louth GAA who reached their third straight Leinster final on Sunday after defeating Kildare on a 1-18 to 0-18 scoreline. The game in Tullamore came right down to the wire, but a Conall McKeever goal at the hooter in the first half made the difference and allowed Louth to progress to HQ. This was joined by the news later that afternoon that Meath had defeated Dublin in Portlaoise, ending the Dubs 14 year unbeaten streak in Leinster, and setting up a repeat of the last non-Dublin Leinster final in 2010. This is joined by the fact that the Louth U20 team have made their second consecutive Leinster final, as they take on Meath in Newbridge on Wednesday, April 30th. Best of luck to all involved in both teams, along with a special mention for O’Connell’s GFC First-Team player Justin Cooney who is on the extended panel for the U20 side
