O’Connell’s GFC Coaches Meeting
There will be a meeting on Thursday, 30th January in the clubrooms for anyone who wishes to get involved with an underage team next year. The meeting is open to all club members, and we encourage any members with interest in helping out to attend. The meeting will take place at 7.30pm
New Rules Seminar
Louth GAA are hosting an in-person seminar regarding the new rules in Darver on Wednesday, 22nd January from 7-9pm. The seminar will be hosted by Colm Nally. Colm is a member of the Football Rule Committee who implemented the new rules, along with being a former Louth player and having years of inter-county management experience.
Local College Football
Congratulations to Coaching Officer Wayne Keirans and the DKIT Senior Squad who have gotten off to a perfect start in their quest to win the Trench Cup. DKIT overcame Mary Immaculate College Limerick on Tuesday, January 14th on a scoreline of 4-18 to 0-12 in Limerick, and followed that result up with a 1-17 to 1-9 victory over the Garda College in Templemore on Tuesday, January 21st. DKIT’s final group game will take place on Tuesday, January 28th in Dundalk against Trinity College Dublin
Allianz National League Round 1
Louth get their Allianz National League Division 2 campaign underway on Sunday, January 26th against Westmeath in TEG Cusack Park, Mullingar. Louth will be looking to win on the opening round of fixtures for the first time since 2017 when they travel to take on a Westmeath team that has seen some key players step away during the off-season. It will be a stern test nonetheless for Gert Brennan’s men who will look to cement themselves early as promotion contenders. Live commentary of the game will be available from 2pm on LMFM
All-Ireland Club Football Final
Congratulations to Cuala GAA of Dublin who won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship on Sunday, January 19th after a 3-14 to 1-16 victory over Errigal Ciaran of Tyrone in Croke Park. Cuala defeated Louth club Ardee St. Mary’s by the minimum back in the Leinster Final en-route to this All-Ireland crown. With their victory on Sunday, Cuala became only the second club in Ireland with a Senior All-Ireland Club Football and Hurling Championship, with the other club being St. Finbarr’s of Cork
