Division 3 Round 2
O’Connell’s GFC travelled to John Markey Park looking to maintain their perfect start to the league against Naomh Fionnbarra on Saturday, April 12th, but were unable to do so falling to a 3-13 to 1-07 defeat. Despite an early Cian Geeney goal, O’Connell’s were never able to gain a foothold in the game once the hosts took over, chasing the game right up until the final whistle. The team will return to Division 3 action on Saturday, April 19th when they host Westerns GFC. Division 6 Round 1
O’Connell’s GFC fell to defeat in their opening game of the Division 6 North league, losing out on a 2-12 to 0-14 scoreline to Cuchulainn Gaels in Omeath. A tight game throughout, goals proved to be decisive, as the two early strikes that found the back of the net ended up pushing the game just out of reach. O’Connell’s return to Division 6 action on Tuesday, April 15th when they host Annaghminnon Rovers in the Grove. Underage Roundup
There were two underage games on during the week featuring O’Connell’s GFC, one at U14 level and another at U16 level. The U14 team started their campaign on Wednesday, April 9th when they hosted St. Patricks in the Grove. A hard fought contest, St. Micheals managed to come away with a victory by the minimum, winning out 5-7 to 5-6. The U16 team returned to action on Monday, April 14th when they hosted Dreadnots in Stabannon. Unfortunately, the team were unable to secure victory, losing out on a scoreline of 2-9 to 3-13. Along with the competitive fixtures, the O’Connell’s GFC U7 and U9 teams had their first outdoor blitzes of the year across the weekend, congratulations to all involved in what were two events of football and fun. The upcoming week is a busy one for underage teams, with games across three different age groups. The very best of luck to all teams in action
