Division 3 Round 1

O’Connell’s GFC started their Division 3 campaign off with a win on Saturday, April 5th with a 3-18 to 1-09 triumph over a spirited Dowdallshill side. Aided by a strong first half breeze, O’Connell’s were 2-12 to 0-1 ahead at the break but managed to hold off a second half fightback from a spirited Dowdallshill team to ensure they started the league off on the right foot. O’Connell’s GFC: Ciáran Kearney, Adam Flynn, Jack McGeough, Tadgh Kearney, James Walsh, Stuart Osbourne, Nathan Carragher, Justin Cooney, Cailum Woods, Harry Kierans (0-1), Robert Quigley (2-13 (0-4 2p)), Alan McGovern, Cian Geeney (0-3), Evan Kearney, Bernard Osbourne (0-1). Subs: T.J Conlon for E. Kearney (30), David Hoey for C. Woods (35), Conall Clerkin for A. McGovern (40), Jackie Agnew (0-1) for C. Geeney (45), Leo Walsh for B. Osbourne (50)

Underage Roundup

O’Connell’s GFC underage teams had a tough week with both the U18 and U16 teams falling to defeat against St. Josephs and Geraldines respectively. The St. Micheals U14 team was due to return to action on Wednesday, April 2nd, but that return was delayed due to the team being awarded a walk-over victory by Cuchulainn Gaels. The u18 team then travelled to Cluskey Park on Thursday, April 3rd to take on a very strong St. Josephs side. Despite the best efforts of all involved, the side were unable to come away with the victory, losing out on a 3-12 to 0-5 scoreline. Next up to try their luck was an injury depleted U16 side, who took on Geraldines in Stabannon. Despite only having 13 available players, the team fought to the end but were unable to come away with a positive result, losing out on a 0-13 to 7-14 scoreline.

2025 Division 6 Competition

Best of luck to the players and management of the O’Connell’s GFC Division 6 team, who start their campaign on Tuesday, April 8th against Cuchulainn Gaels in Omeath. The Division 6 competition has been changed this year, with the league being split into North and South regions. O’Connell’s GFC are in the north region along with Cuchulainn Gaels, John Mitchels, Dundalk Young Irelanders, Stabannon Parnells, Glyde Rangers, Annaghminnon Rovers and Na Pairsaigh
