Match Report for Lann Leire 6-12 v O’Connell’s GFC 2-15
O’Connell’s GFC travelled to Dunleer to take on Lann Leire in round 11 of Division 3 league play. A hotly contested affair on an equally hot evening, the home side came away victorious, coming out 6-12 to 2-15 victors. The game started off perfectly for the visitors when Niall Conlon slotted over the games first score with a minute on the clock. O’Connell’s situation improved even more when a beautiful passage of play found its way to Sean Geeney on the edge of the square, who palmed into the net to give O’Connell’s a 0-00 to 1-02 lead. The home side would rally over the next ten minutes, firing over 1-04 without reply to put themselves back into the lead. Niall Conlon would stop the run with his second point of the game before Sean Geeney repaid Niall Conlon for passing across goal for the visitors first by doing the same, with Niall finding the back of the net to leave the scores at 1-04 to 2-02. Dunleer would add on two more points to their tally to retake the lead of the game by the minimum, before a beautiful two-point free-kick from Evan Kearney put the men from Castlebellingham back in front. It would all fall apart however in the moments that followed, with the home side finding the back of the net twice in one minute to extend their lead to 3-06 to 2-04. Two more Niall Conlon free kicks put a dent in the score, before another Dunleer goal right on half-time ensured the hosts entered the break with a six point lead, 4-06 to 2-06. The second half started tight, with Dunleer extending their lead right after the interval before Evan Kearney answered back with a point of his own. The hosts were not to be denied this one however, with Dunleer scoring 2-03 without reply to push themselves out of reach of the visitors. Two more Niall Conlon free kicks did little to spark a comeback, with both scores coming either side of a brace of scores for the home side. Two two-pointers from evan Kearney and two points from substitute Leo Walsh put a little shine on the score before the final whistle went, but the home side had the last laugh, coming away 6-12 to 2-15 victors.
