Match Report for Glyde Rangers 0-20 v O’Connell’s GFC 1-16

O’Connell’s GFC travelled to Tallanstown to take on Glyde Rangers in Round Nine of Division 3 looking to bounce back after losing to John Mitchels in the previous round of fixtures. Unfortunately for the visitors, the outcome of the game was the same as last week, with O’Connell’s falling to defeat by the minimum, losing on a 1-16 to 0-20 scoreline. The game started off well for the hosts, with Glyde getting a two-pointer in the opening two minutes to push themselves into an early lead. O’Connell’s were not to be outdone however, with Niall Conlon managing to find the back of the net for the O’Connell’s first score of the game after six minutes to put the visitors up by one. O’Connell’s would look to build on this, with points from Niall Conlon and Robert Quigley extending the lead to three, before Glyde went on a scoring run of their own, getting the next five points of the game. Niall Conlon’s second point of the game ended the Glyde run, before Jackie Agnew opened his account for the evening to bring the sides back level. A Robert Quigley two-pointer put the O’Connell’s back in front before Niall Conlon rounded out the first-half to leave the O’Connell’s ahead 1-09 to 0-09. O’Connell’s started the second-half on the front foot, with Jackie Agnew firing over a point to extend the visitors lead to four. Glyde managed to get the game back to a one point deficit before a pair of Niall Conlon points extended the O’Connell’s leas back to three points. Robert Quigley fired over a two-pointer to extend the O’Connell’s lead out to five before Glyde went on another scoring run, bringing the game back to 1-14 to 0-17. Robert Quigley scored again to stop the run before Jackie Agnew was sent to the side line by referee Ultan McElroy which allowed Glyde to take control of the game in the closing minutes. Another run of points secured their victory with Robert Quigleys last-minute effort not being enough to secure the draw that the game deserved.
